Chapter 148 When Are We Going To Make Things...

“Tforto head out! Bye!”

With a twist and a giggle, the little girl dashed away.

By the entrance of the playroom, a nurse gently lifted Joy. “It's quite late; bedtnow, isn't it?”

“Understood!”

Eric watched them go, his fingers brushing the spot where the child had kissed him, his laughter light and

tender.

“Mr. Flynn!”

Phillips, having finished his errands, scanned the room for Eric. “I've been looking all over for you.”

“We should get moving,” Eric said, his hand on his forehead, signaling discomfort.

Indeed, his visit to the doctor had resulted in an unexpected hospital stay.

Srixby.

At the Red Shell Bistro.

Hadley let out a little gasp.

Denver stopped abruptly, his eyes fixated on Hadley with concern. “What's wrong?”

“It’s really nothing.” Hadley reassured with an awkward smile, shaking her head.

They had been looking forward to this dinner, yet as she sliced into her steak, Hadley’s hand slipped, causing her

to prick herself with the fork.

“Show me,” Denver insisted, taking her hand gently to inspect the injury. “How did this even happen?”

Explaining seemed too complicated at that moment; she had simply zoned out briefly.

“It’s really minor.”

Denver sighed in relief after a quick examination. “Looks like it’s just a bit red, no actual cut.”

“See, | told you it was minor.”

Retrieving her hand, Hadley said, “Let's just eat, okay? Don’t you have a flight to catch later tonight?”

Indeed, Denver was scheduled to fly out to Prineville for a business trip.

“Right,” he replied, topping off her glass. “I'm sorry | can’t be here to see you off in two days.”

“Hmm?” Hadley’s laughter echoed in surprise. “You're apologizing? You're flying out tonight-how could you see

Denver still expressed concern. “But it's your first performance overseas.”

“It’s not a big deal, really. The whole dance troupe will be with me. Plus, it’s Blathe-1 spent four years there. I'm

pretty familiar with the city.”

“Focus on your meetings.” Hadley comforted him. “I'll be fine on my own.

“Alright.”

Despite his reluctance, Denver accepted the situation.

They left the Red Shell Bistro after dinner, and he drove her to Mayfield Road.

Stepping out of the car, Hadley reassured him, saying, “This is good here. You better hurry to the airport.”

His luggage was already loaded in the trunk, ready for a direct departure.

“Goodbye.”

With a wave, Hadley adjusted her bag on her shoulder.

“Hadley!”

Denver's voice stopped her as she started to walk away.

“Yes?” She turned around, her smile soft. “What’s on your mind? You know | don’t like fuss, Denver.”

“It’s not that...”

Denver gave a sheepish grin before his face grew earnest. “Hadley, when are we going to make things official

between us?”

Her expression showed surprise at his question.

“I'm not pushing for an immediate decision,” Denver quickly added, hoping to ease any pressure. “Just think

about it, okay? Things have been really good between us, right?”

Hadley was momentarily speechless, her lips parted in surprise.

“If you believe I'm the right choice...”

She remained silent, and although Denver noted her quietude, his spirit didn’t falter. “Think about it while you're

away, and let's decide when you're back, okay?”

Without waiting for her response, he continued, “I need to leave now.”

Flashing a hopeful smile, Denver started his car and pulled away.

Rooted to the spot, Hadley pondered. Would she have an answer for him after her trip?

As Denver drove off, he didn’t notice another vehicle trailing him closely.

Leaving Mayfield Bond, the following car suddenly sped up, overtaking and blocking him.

Shocked, Denver quickly exited his vehicle.

Wilms emerged from the intercepting car.

“Mom?” His surprise was mild. “What are you doing out here?”

“Denver!” Wilma’s eyes darted to his car and she pressed a hand to her forehead. “Is this the life you

envisioned?”

Denver managed everything in his life, right down to the ordinary sedan he drove.

“What are you implying? What's wrong with my life now?” Denver shrugged. “I don’t see an issue with it.”

“You.”

Wilma was at a loss for words. Her plan had not unfolded as she anticipated.

Previously, Wilma had severed Denver's financial support, convinced he would quickly yielded.

Yet, her plan backfired.

Denver persisted through the challenges.

Now, to her increasing dismay, he was even contemplating a serious commitment to Hadley.

“Denver.”

Switching tactics, Wilma softened her approach and grasped his arm. “You need to listen-Hadley isn’t suitable for

you... It’s for your own good. You're young and you might regret this decision later. She’s been through a lot, and

she-"

“Mom!” Denver interrupted sharply.

Her critique was sharp, and it clearly disturbed Denver as he cut in.

“Mom, how can you talk about her like that? Hadley’s been divorced, yes, but she’s committed no crime!”

As he shook his head, Denver's expression was one of utter disappointment. “Enough, Mom. My decision to be

with Hadley is final. I'm not backing down.”

“No, Denver...”

“Mom.”

With a firm resolve, Denver gently but firmly freed his arm from Wilma'’s grip. “I need to go.”

He turned swiftly, returned to his car, and drove away.

“Denver!”

Wilma'’s frustration was evident as she watched him maneuver past her and drive off, her foot stamping the

ground in frustration.

Chapter 148 When Are We Going To Make Things Official

“He says he’s not backing down? Humph... We'll see about that, Denver!”

Two days later, Lightning Dance Stuwas ready to head to Blathe.

Despite the long flight of over ten hours, Hadley felt an invigorating anticipation-she was eager to reunite with

her beloved daughter.

Full of excitement, she snapped a selfie at the plane’s entrance and shared it online, saying, “Blathe, can’t wait!”

Meanwhile, in a hospital in Blathe, Eric noticed the update on his phone.

Was Hadley really on her way here?

She was on tour, Eric remembered.

Her joy was evident.

She looked really radiant without him.

The thought left Eric restless. He turned his phone face down, but a moment later, he picked it up again.

He navigated to the Lightning Dance Studio’s website to look up the Blathe show details. Since she was coming

to Blathe and he was still there, he decided to attend her performance.

He intended to do nothing else but observe her on stage.

That was his plan.

Just to see her perform, nothing beyond that.

It was just after seven in the evening when the troupe touched down in Blathe.

The hour was still reasonable.

Hadley, unable to contain her excitement, was anxious to meet Joy.

Turning to Elissa, Hadley said, “Could you handle my luggage and take it to the room? There's somewhere | need

to be first.”

“Of course,” Elissa responded, respecting her boundaries and prying into Hadley’s plans.

“Thanks so much.”

Despite leaving most of her bags with Elissa, Hadley carried one with her-a special gift intended for Joy.
