Chapter 63 She's Engaged

“Corynn, I've been thinking a lot these days, and | think I've finally figured out how I really feel about you...”

Elliot began, his voice hoarse.

Corynn turned to look at him incredulously, finding it all too amusing. “Oh, is that so? Have you discussed said

feelings with your fiancee? Maybe you should deal with her first. After all, she’s causeda lot of trouble

lately.”

What feelings could Elliot possibly have for her? Their previous relationship-if one could call it that-was

always just about sex.

“Please leave,” Corynn said coldly, closing her eyes to shut him out. “I need to go to sleep.”

Elliot pursed his lips tightly. However, knowing that he couldn't change her mind for the tbeing, he said

resignedly, “Okay, rest well.”

He stood up to leave, but all of a sudden, Corryn said, “Wait.”

A flicker of hope sparked within him as he turned to look at her expectantly.

Seeing his hopeful expression, Corynn merely chuckled and said coldly, “Elliot, | have a fiancee now. You should

really stop visiting me.”

And just like that, a sharp, suffocating pain engulfed Elliot's heart, making it hard for him to breathe.

It was the first the had ever felt such pain in his life.

Though Corynn hadn't lifted a finger, she managed to wound him deeply.

For a moment, Elliot felt disoriented, almost as thought Corynn had smacked him on the head.

His Adam’s apple bobbed as he struggled to swallow, his vision unfocused.

“Is-is it Jason?” he stuttered, his throat tight and voice hoarse.

Corynn nodded nonchalantly. “Yes, we've already met his family, and my parents are quite fond of him.”

Despite how much her words stung, Elliot didn’t find them hard to believe. He had seen firsthand how Corynn’s

parents doted on Jason, a stark contrast to their clear disapproval of him.

Seeing Elliot so devastated, Corynn felt a twisted sense of satisfaction.

Still smiling, she rubbed salt on his wounds and added, “Once I'm discharged, Jason will takeon a trip abroad

for a while. The wedding will take place when we return. Maybe we'll even send you an invitation.”

Elliot’s mind went completely blank. His body went numb, and the only sensation he felt was the icy chill

spreading throughout his veins, Corynn’s words like sharp blades piercing his heart.

“Get srest. I'll get going now.” he managed to croak out a few words before fleeing.

Corynn laughed as she watched him unceremoniously rush out the door.

Oh, how the tables had turned! It seemed karma had finally caround; now, it was Elliot's turn to suffer.

As soon as Elliot left the ward, his phone rang, but he was too consumed with thoughts of Corynn’s impending

marriage that he failed to notice the ringing.

It wasn’t until he got in his car that he started to calm down.

In any other situation, he was always so decisive and confident in himself.

But seeing Corynn and hearing her harsh words shattered his resolve.

His phone continued ringing, but he ignored it, squeezing his eyes shut in an attempt to gather his bearings.

He took a deep breath, trying hard to swallow the discomfort in his chest.

After a while, he opened his eyes, which were filled with resolve. Corynn marrying Jason was something he

couldn’t simply accept; as a result, he vowed to win Corynn back before the wedding.

And even if he failed to win her over, he’d do everything in his power to make sure Corynn and Jason didn’t get

married.

Corynn was his and his alone, now and forever.

He couldn’t bear the thought of losing her to another man.

But Corynn’s cruel words kept echoing in his ears, like a curse.

To make matters worse, his damned phone wouldn't stop ringing. It felt like the universe was hell-bent on

tormenting him. In a fit of anger, Elliot grabbed it and hurled it against the windshield.

Bang!
