Janessa was completely dumbfounded. Something is off! The story isn’t supposed to unfold this way. Madelyn
was supposed to look for Christopher... Hose is she here instead?
Janessa couldn't make sense of it all, so she had no choice but to argue loudly, “Madelyn, | swear | didn’t
mishear you. Your clearly toldjust now that Christopher had a car accident. You were rushing to see him”
Upon hearing these words, Madelyn looked utterly confused. “Why should | go see Christopher? He's not related
toin any way. Sure, we're classmates, but we're not that close. Why on earth would | go see him? | would be
out of my mind. Besides, | have a banquet to attend on my side. Why would | possibly abandon such an
important event to go see a classmate I'm not even close with?”
After Madelyn finished speaking, she innocently looked at Sebastian and asked, “Sebastian, you agree me,
right?”
Sebastian remained silent, his icy gaze fixed on Janessa. “Ms. Sherritt, what exactly were you trying to convey
with what you said to me?”
with
Janessa had no choice but to cover her mouth, shaking her head. “Sebastian, believe me. | didn't lie. It was
Madelyn. She-"
“What's wrong with me? Janessa, aren't we good friends? How cyou wouldn't even helpout by telling
Sebastian | was in the bathroom?” Madelyn innocently asked, and her face abruptly paled a second later as she
looked at Janessa in disbelief. Janessa, you didn’t tell Sebastian that | went to look after Christopher, did you?”
Janessa was at a loss for words because she indeed said exactly that.
Upon seeing her silence, Madelyn immediately scolded with a pale face, “Janessa! How could you do this? | never
said | was going to look for Christopher. How could you speak without understanding the situation? You nearly
caused a disaster. Sebastian almost misunderstood me. Do you understand?”
Janessa was utterly speechless. For quite a while, she didn’t know how to react. What on earth is happening? My
plan isn’t supposed to go like this!
However, it seemed that no matter how much she tried to explain herself, Sebastian wouldn't believe her. At that
point, his face had already turned completely cold.

If the argument continued, it probably wouldn't do any good for her.
After a moment, Janessa finally gathered her thoughts and managed to explain, “P-Perhaps | misunderstood. I'm
sorry, Madelyn. Sebastian, it was my mistake. | hope you won't take it to heart.”
Upon seeing her like this, Madelyn couldn't help but scoff inwardly. Oh? After your schfailed, do you think
playing innocent and begging for mercy will work? Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple.
With that in mind, Madelyn put on a convincingly angry face and thundered, “Janessa, this is not the first time.
You've been treatinglike this over and over again. What are you really up to?”
With that, Madelyn, quite frustrated, hooked her arm around Sebastian's arm and headed straight toward
Lockhart Manor.

Janessa couldn't just accept it. She quickly chased after them in her high heels.
Grasping Madelyn’s hand, she pleaded, “Madelyn, can you letexplain properly? There must be some
misunderstanding here. It's not what you're thinking!”
Madelyn turned around impatiently, immediately shaking off her hand. “There’s nothing to explain!”
“But I—Janessa attempted to interject once more.
“Will you ever stop?” Madelyn pulled away once again.
Surprisingly, when she shook Janessa off, Janessa let go of her hand. Janessa’s high heel suddenly twisted,
causing her to lose her balance and tumble down.
Next to them was a swimming pool. That morning, Marsha had just had the pool cleaned by the workers, filling it
with fresh water.
With a splash, Janessa had fallen, causing countless droplets to scatter.
The guests watched in shock, exclaiming. “Someone’s fallen into the water!”
“Huh? Someone fell into the water?”
“Quick! Take a look!”
For a moment, all eyes were drawn to the swimming pool.
Indeed, they saw a woman bobbing up and down on the water's surface as if she could sink at any moment.
“Help me!” Janessa, who never learned how to swim, found herself struggling in the water.
“I can’t swim! Save me...” Janessa had barely gotten the words out when she swallowed a mouthful of pool
water.
Onlookers watched with growing concern, yet none stepped forward to offer help.
Janessa knew that Sebastian was a good swimmer. At that moment, she called out desperately, “Sebastian, save
me! Save me!”
After speaking, she took a big gulp of the disinfected water from the swimming pool.
Janessa was in such agony that she felt as if she were on the verge of death. All she could do was stare
desperately at Sebastian, hoping he would leap into action and play the hero to save her.
However, Sebastian was merely observing with a cool detachment from the sidelines.
With so many people around, there was no need for him to play the hero. Besides, he was unsure of this
woman's intentions just moments ago. Sebastian was actually curious to see what kind of spectacle she could
stir up next.
Madelyn, however, was utterly taken aback. The force with which | pushed her away earlier was clearly not that
strong. It was hardly enough to make her lose her balance, let alone enough to cause her to fall into the water!

With that in mind, Madelyn was seething with anger, thinking Janessa had just shot herself in the foot. If it
weren't for Agnes’ birthday, she wouldn't have wanted to help her at all.
However, it was Agnes’ birthday, and it wasn’t easy to throw such a big party with so many people showing
up.
Madelyn certainly didn’t want her own matters to cast a shadow over Agnes’ birthday banquet.
Besides, all she wanted was to teach Janessa a lesson. It wasn't as if she was planning to kill her.
Therefore, Madelyn quickly called for security, exclaiming,
“Hurry! Get her out of there!”
Without a second thought, the security guard dove into the water, rescuing the flailing Janessa.
In less than two minutes, they had gotten out of the pool. Janessa, drenched from head to toe, was laid on the
ground.
“Are you okay?” Madelyn moved closer, a hint of worry lacing her voice.
After choking on the water twice, Janessa suddenly cast a reproachful look at Madelyn. “Madelyn, | know I've
wronged you, but why did you have to pushinto the water?”
What? Madelyn was taken aback, having not expected that after deliberately falling into the water, Janessa
would unexpectedly turn the tables.
The spectators nearby watched this scene unfold, sparking a flurry of discussions. The consensus was that
Madelyn had pushed someone into the water.
At that moment, Beatrice seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Right off the bat, she started to ridicule Madelyn by saying, “Madelyn, the Lockhart family is hosting a banquet
this evening. As hosts, we should ensure every guest enjoys their treatment. Yet, you actually pushed a guest
into the water. Tsk! How embarrassing for you!”
