Chapter 224

Emma was being led away by the police, and Bella hear wat in her throat. She couldn't wrap her head around it.

How had her daughter gotten tangled up in a murder investigation?

Berenger’s voice cut through the tension. “What the hell is going on**

His patience was long gone. He'd always tried to be understanding with Bella and Emma, but this was beyond

anything he could’ve imagined. The police weren't arresting people on a whim, especially not for murder. What

could Emma have possibly done

“I don’t know,” Bella whispered, shaking her head as tears streamed down her cheeks. “Emma couldn't have

killed anyone. There must be smistake.”

“How can you still be so naive?” Berenger’s frustration boiled over. “Do you think the police arrest people

without evidence? There has to be a reason they took her.”

“Bella, look at your own daughter! Just like her real father! Well, makes sense. He's a complete-"

The word “rapist” was caught in Berenger’s throat; he just couldn't bring himself to say it because it was hurtful

Bella always saw this event as a nightmare, and mentioning those words would undoubtedly hurt her. Even

though Bella had made many mistakes in the past, Berenger still valued the sliver of family connection they

shared.

Bella's eyes widened, and she stared ahead blankly. She didn’t need to hear the words to know what he was

thinking. It was about Emma's father-something Bella had tried to bury deep in the past.

She let out a cold, bitter laugh. After all these years, even her own brother couldn't hide his contempt for her.

She had lived most of her life, only to end up like this-a pariah, despised by everyone.

She wiped her tears and looked at Berenger. “You've done enough for me. | won't be a burden anymore.” She

got up from the floor, her legs trembling, and stumbled out of the room.

Berenger wanted to stop her, but he was at a loss for words. Maybe it was better to let her go and cool off alone.

Odalyn had been silent the entire time. She’d never liked Bella and Emma, and now this. If Emma was capable of

something so terrible, who knew what else she might do?

She thought, ‘It's better for them to leave. What if they get angry and turn against us? The Jackson family has

always been respectable in Shecrity-such a scandal never happens. Ever since Bella and Emma have cto

us, disasters have been coming to us as well.

The room hung heavy with silence, the kind that makes your ears ring and your heart race. Everyone sat there,

lost in their own thoughts, until Odalyn broke the spell. She turned to Logan and asked, “How's Elysia?”

Logan blinked, caught off guard. He hadn't expected that to be her first question. “She’s doing great,” he replied,

his voice steady. “You want to go see her? | can take you.”

“Alright,” Odalyn said, nodding. Then she looked at Berenger. “Are you coming with us, or staying here to deal

with Bella's mess?”

Sensing her impatience, Berenger's face softened, and he gave a reassuring smile. “Wherever you go, I'm

there,” he said. “And honestly, | haven't seen Juliet in ages. I'd love to catch up with her.”

Odalyn rolled her eyes, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. “I thought you'd be staying to clean up after Bella.”

“Honey,” Berenger said, his tone gentle, “nothing is more important than you.”

“You're just butteringup,” Odalyn teased, but there was a warmth in her voice. She stood up, heading for the

door, and

ogan, however, stood mated to the open, watching them leave. He felt like an order, a spare part of dieir

dynamir. His parents were a unit, and he was the one who always veemed to be left behind

But then be remembered something crucial: Elysia. She was the Owner of Arcanum House, and there was no way

he parents would guess that. If he took them there, her identity would be revealed.

He cursed himself for not thinking it through earlier. Now he needed to get Elysia’s permission before he could

decide whether to bring them to her.

He pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts until he found Elysia’s name. But when he called, it

went straight

to voicemail.

He sighed, frustrated. He'd have to find another way to reach her. Maybe they could meet at Arcanum House, or

somewhere else entirely. He needed to figure it out fast.

Logan's gaze flicked to the door, but his phone remained stubbornly silent. He felt a pang of loneliness. His

parents hadn't even noticed he wasn’t following them. If he didn’t hurry, they'd probably leave without him. It

was a possibility he couldn't ignore.

A wave of dread washed over him. He quickly stood up and hurried outside, his steps quickening as he reached

the hotel

entrance.

To his relief, he saw Odalyn standing by the curb, talking on the phone. At least they hadn't left without him.

Maybe his parents did care after all.

But just as he was starting to feel better, he saw his parents hail a taxi. Panic surged through him. He sprinted

towards them. shouting, “Wait!”

Berenger turned at the sound of his voice and frowned when he saw Logan running towards them. “Hurry up,” he

called out with a frown.

Logan's heart sank as he caught his father’s disapproving look. Was it enough to be ignored? Now he had to deal

with being dismissed too.

But he didn’t have tto dwell on it. If he didn’t catch the taxi, he'd be left behind, and he’d be truly lost.

Logan finally reached the taxi, panting heavily with his hands on his knees.

Berenger, already seated in the back, leaned forward with a frown. “Hurry up and get in,” he snapped, clearly

impatient.

Logan rolled his eyes. His dad was never one for patience or gentleness, but he didn’t dare argue. He quickly

climbed into the passenger seat.

“Take us to the Arcanum House,” Odalyn told the driver.

Logan's eyes widened in surprise. “Mom, how did you know Elysia was there?” he asked, genuinely puzzled.

Odalyn raised an eyebrow. “Do you think we're as clueless as you are? We know how to ask questions,” she

replied with a hint of amusement.

Logan’s mind raced. No wonder his call to Elysia had gone unanswered. He'd been so naive, thinking they

couldn't find her without him.

But if Elysia had given them the address, it meant she didn’t intend to hide anything. Still, he was baffled by his

parents’ lack of surprise.
