Chapter 393 If | Could Be with Cameron

“David, what you're givingisn’t love-it's selfishness. You say you love me, but you want to own me. How
could | ever be free like that? How could | ever be happy?”
David fell silent.
His breath, slightly uneven, brushed against her skin, ghosting over her ear and neck. It sent an unwelcchill
down her spine.
“I won't deny it,” he finally admitted. “I'm selfish.” His voice was low, steady. “Then teach me, Caroline. Show
Without hesitation, she answered, “Letgo. That's the only way.”
His expression darkened. So that was her answer. No matter what he said or did, she was determined to leave.
Letting her go? No. That wasn’t an option.
“You see?” She let out a hollow laugh. “You can’t do it. You talk like you understand, but it’s all meaningless, isn’t
it? Just empty words.”
She tried to pull his hand away, but he only tightened his hold.

His breath mixed with hers, the closeness suffocating.
“David, you thought Cameron was my date. You didn’t even take a good look at him. You didn’t askanything.
You just draggedinto the car and started speeding like a lunatic. Do you have any idea how scared | was?”
“I wouldn't have let anything happen to you,” he said firmly. “I drive like that all the time. I've never had an
accident.”
So confident. So sure. Like his recklessness could never have consequences.
“I'm pregnant, David!” Her voice wavered, frustration bubbling to the surface. “I felt sick, dizzy, terrified. | could
have died. The baby could have died. Even if we didn’t crash, what if the stress mademiscarry? Did that ever
cross your mind?” A bitter chuckle escaped her lips. “Oh, wait. You probably wouldn't care. You've been hoping
I'd lose this baby all along, haven't you? You only think about your own rage. Never about me. Not my safety. Not
our child.”
His jaw tensed, his grip tightening for a fraction of a second.
“If Cameron wanted me, I'd leave you in an instant,” she said coldly.
His eyes darkened. “You think someone like you could catch Cameron's attention?”
“And if I could?”
“Don’t fool yourself,” David said flatly. “Even if you tried, Cameron wouldn't look twice at you.”
She bit her lip, tilting her head slightly. “And yet... he was very attentive today. Patient. Considerate. Different.”

But part of her wasn’t sure. Cameron had been different.
But deep down, she knew better. He was a man of status, raised with perfect manners. His kindness probably
wasn't special-it was just who he was.
And yet...

Why had he insisted on sellingthat rare batch of ginseng? And at such a low price? Why had he asked to
meet me? Was it really just about business?
She had been thinking about it all day. It didn’t add up.

She smiled faintly. “Is that right?”
“Caroline,” his voice was calm, yet there was an unmistakable possessiveness beneath it. “I'm the only one who
sees you as truly special, the only one who treats you like you're irreplaceable.”
She exhaled slowly, her smile widening.
“Thanks,” she murmured. “But | don’t need it.”
David swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbing.
“Tellthe truth, Caroline. Is it because you finally realized Nash couldn’t help you? That he couldn't take you
away from me? And now, you're pinning your hopes on Cameron instead?”
