Chapter 196 Who Lied Such behavior wasn't commendable. Something had to change! During breakfast, Penelope announced, "I'm going to the office today. It's tI get back to a regular work schedule." "Fine. But on one condition," he responded.
"What's that?" Penelope asked.
"Ride in my car." Kelvin proposed.
She countered, "I can take the bus." "Then I suppose I'd have to follow the bus," he said.
With a drawn-out sip of coffee, Kelvin proposed, "Of course, there's a second option." Curious, Penelope asked, "Which is it?" "Have Jack drive you," Kelvin suggested.
"You're really settingup with a shadow bodyguard?" Penelope said.
"Yes. You don't have to worry about him on a daily basis. He'll show up when needed." Kelvin agreed.
Penelope's head was throbbing with worry.
She was pregnant again, and she knew she'd have to leave L.A. soon before her belly made it obvious. She had to get out before anyone noticed.
What about Jack? Was he going to suffer Kelvin's wrath because of her mistakes? "Just drive," Penelope said with resignation.
Kelvin's lips curled into a sly smile.
As they headed out the door, Penelope reached for her purse, but Kelvin was one step ahead of her.
She gasped in surprise and quickly slung the bag over her shoulder. "What are you doing?" she asked, frustrated. "Just trying to help you," he said.

"No, I'm not!" Penelope replied, feigning calm. "I just don't like people touching my things." The pills she'd gotten from the OB-GYN the day before were still in her bag! She hadn't had the tto hide them properly.
Kelvin must never find out about them; it would be a total disaster.
To avoid raising his suspicions, Penelope quickly got into the car and took the passenger seat without prompting.
He raised an eyebrow but seemed quite pleased with her action.
His passenger seat was always meant for her and her alone.
Once at the office, the first thing Penelope did was head straight for the restroom.
She hid in one of the stalls, transferring the prescribed medication into a vitamin bottle.
Then, she dumped the actual vitamins into the toilet and watched them disappear into the plumbing.
After that, Penelope finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Now, even if someone saw her taking the pills, they'd think she was taking vitamins. No suspicions would be raised.
"Little one, this time, Mommy will definitely protect you and make sure you cinto this world safe and sound," she whispered to herself.
Compared to her previous pregnancy, Penelope's situation had much improved.
Everything from her clothing to her food was top-notch; her nutritional needs were being met.
As long as she took good care of herself and the baby, the little one would surely be healthy.
Around noon, Penelope sent a message to Nathan.
Penelope; [Can we meet?] Nathan: [Yes, I have something important to tell you.] Penelope: [Good.] They arranged a tand place. Then, Penelope slipped out through the company's back door.
It was lunch hour; no one would notice her absence.
In a coffee cafe.

"It's been a while," Nathan said, looking at her. "Penelope, how have you been doing in L.A.?" "Good or bad, it's all in the past. It's tto move on." Penelope replied.
"Why were you and Kelvin at the airport that day?" Nathan inquired.
"Grandpa Davis sentaway, and Kelvin personally cto bringback," Penelope answered succinctly. "It just so happened that I ran into you and Anthony." "The feud between you and the Davis family has gotten this deep?" Nathan asked. Penelope replied, "Yeah." The whole Davis family couldn't stand her, yet Kelvin loved her to the bone.
"Kelvin's look at you; it's totally different now," Nathan said. "Penelope, it seems like he's fallen for you." Penelope was startled. Had Nathan noticed, too? Was Kelvin's love for her that obvious? "Penelope, I'm a man. Men understand other men," Nathan perceived her thoughts. "Besides, Kelvin isn't hiding it at all. It's plain to see." Penelope managed a bitter smile, and said, "love or not love, anyway?" "If the truth comes out, and there's no paternal vendetta between you and Kelvin, could you still say what good is love then?" Nathan puzzled.
Kelvin would love her even more! Without the blood feud, their love could be purer and more fervent.
Free from obstacles! Penelope looked Nathan in the eyes. "The day the truth comes out will be the day I leave LA," she claimed. "You're leaving?" Nathan asked, surprised.
She answered, "Yes. I have to." Penelope had already planned her future.
After unveiling the truth and freeing her father, she would flee far away with the child growing inside her to a place unknown. She'd give birth and live a quiet life. Nathan nodded. "I support all your decisions," he assured.
"I want you to keep my departure a secret. Don't help me," Penelope said, "Otherwise, Kelvin will surely confront you. Nathan, I don't want to drag you into this." Planning your weekend reading? Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"I'll make a plan," Penelope deflected. "Have you noticed anything unusual around Anthony lately?" she asked.
Nathan frowned.
"After befriending him, I realized he's just into partying, chasing girls at nightclubs, and neglecting his duties," Nathan shared, "He's got a lot of sycophantic friends, loves his ego, and hardly ever talks about the Davis. family." Penelope's brow furrowed. "What should we do?" she asked.
"But after returning home, Anthony changed considerably. He's been invitingto partner up on projects. The other day, while having drinks, I brought up Mr. Davis's death inadvertently," Nathan informed.
"What did he say?" Penelope questioned.
Nathan responded truthfully, "Anthony said his father never valued him and left everything to Kemn. He even mentioned that in a fit of anger, his father said he wouldn't leave him a single share of the Davis Group, which really upset him." What? Penelope vividly remembered Kelvin saying Mr. Davis had considered giving half his shares to Anthony.
She immediately latched onto the critical point, pressing further, "Did Anthony ever mention when exactly Mr. Davis talked about not giving him the shares?"
"Well, it was the night before Mr.
plied.
Davis died in that car accident," Nathan replied. "Anthony mentioned it happened when a casual fling of his, unable to shake her off, showed up pregnant at their doorstep, which infuriated Mr. Davis." Penelope's mind was racing.
Something didn't add up.
Kelvin's and Anthony's stories were miles apart! One said that Mr. Davis was willing to give away half the shares.
The other said Mr. Davis would give him a limited share! Noticing Penelope's grave expression, Nathan asked, "What's wrong?" She voiced her confusion, "Why are their stories opposite? Who's lying?" Could it be that Kelvin was deceiving her? But he had no reason to lie about this.
Mr. Davis's death was the root of their mutual enmity.
