Chapter 195 No Love, Just Loathing "Of course, Mrs. Davis," the servant said.

Penelope then turned back to Anthony, and advised, "Keep it together, and you might just coast through life as a trust fund kid." Anthony sure hit the jackpot, free from financial worries.

As long as he doesn't screw up, his life would be smoother than 99% of the people out there.

The bodyguards quickly stepped forward, dragging Lily and Anthony away.

"Let go ofI'm the youngest son of the Davis family!" Anthony protested.

"I can walk on my own; how dare you lay hands on me!" Anthony yelled.

No matter how Anthony shouted, the bodyguards remorselessly pulled him away. Penelope frowned and stood on the ground.

Now, more than ever, she was convinced that Mr. Davis's death had something to do with Lily and her son! The panic in their expressions, the guilt-they'd forgotten to hide it, and it was all laid bare for the world to see! Anthony, especially, couldn't even bear to look at the portrait of Mr. Davis.

As Penelope was pondering, an arm snaked around her waist.

The scent of cologne enveloped her, and she found herself in Kelvin's embrace.

"Penelope, just now..." he whispered in her ear, "the way you stood up forI won't forget it." Standing before him, defending him from Lily and her son, every word she spoke about his predicament, arguing on his behalf...

For Kelvin, what more could he ask for in a wife? No matter how harsh her words were, she still held a place for him in her heart.

"I... I wasn't defending you," Penelope retorted, "I just can't stand them, that's all." She was also doing it for herself, to uncover the truth.

Kelvin's arms tightened, "Penelope, when will you face your feelings, our feelings?" After many detours, it had taken him a long tto confront the truth about their marriage, and he didn't want Penelope to go through the same.

But the way things looked, she seemed to be in for an even longer journey.

"There's no love between us-only hate," Penelope declared, "Lily made it quite clear: we share a vendetta!" "If there were no vendetta, would you love me?" he probed.

"I..." Penelope found herself at a loss for words.

She had always known that her father hadn't killed Mr. Davis.

So, in her heart, there really was no blood feud with Kelvin - she was tirelessly searching for the truth.

But Kelvin was none the wiser.

Believing they shared a hatred steeped in patricide, he declared his love for her as if to defy the entire Davis clan! "Our past is riddled with too much hatred, Kelvin," Penelope sighed heavily as she spoke. "I can't let go, nor can I forgive." "I get it. The child's death torments you. Penelope, tellwhat I can do to erase your deep-seated regret," Kelvin asked.

Penelope shook her head. "Nothing can be done," she replied.

She pulled her hand away and walked towards the mansion, not looking back.

Kelvin stood there watching her recede, unable to move for a long while.

He could stand up to anyone, even go against his Grandfather, but he couldn't bring himself to be insensitive towards her.

In the past... he had hurt her too many times. Now, he had to mend the wounds in her heart slowly.

Every scar was made by his hand.

Kelvin felt like his former self was truly a bastard! "Mr. Davis," Jack appeared silently beside him.

"From now on, you're Penelope's shadow," Kelvin spoke, "Where she is, you are; where she isn't... you understand." "Affirmative," Jack confirmed.

Kelvin strode away while Jack quickly melted into the shadows as if he'd never been there.

Returning to the master bedroom, he found it empty; there were no signs of her in the dressing room or bathroom.

Where's Penelope? "Mr. Davis," the butler informed, "Mrs. Davis said she'll sleep in the guest room from now on. Moreover, she's locked the door." Kelvin's expression grew stern, and he extended a hand. "Givethe key," he demanded.

In the neighboring guest room, Penelope had turned off the lights and gone to bed after getting ready.

With the door locked, Kelvin could not get in-he wouldn't resort to drilling the lock after all.

The feeling of enjoying a room all to herself was simply delightful.

Penelope slept soundly until the morning light.

Turning over, she smelled a familiar, faint, masculine scent.

Why would her pillow and blanket carry this aroma? Wait, that was unmistakably Kelvin's scent! Penelope jolted awake and bolted up in bed.

Looking around, she confirmed she was in the main bedroom! What was going on? She was certain she had gone to sleep in the guest room last night! "Kelvin!" Penelope gritted her teeth. "I demand an explanation!" she yelled.

The dressing room door opened as Kelvin, tying his tie, stepped out and responded nonchalantly, "What?" "Don't play dumb with me! How did I end up in your room?" she asked, angrily.

Kelvin replied, "This is also your room, Penelope." Penelope demanded, "Cut the crap. Just answer my question!" Kelvin kept a poker face, and said, "I have no idea how you ended up in the main bedroom." Penelope was puzzled. "What do you mean?" she asked.

"You don't know? Are you suggesting you waltzed in here on your own?" she doubted.

Unexpectedly, Kelvin nodded firmly. "Exactly," he confirmed.

Her response was a mere flabbergasted silence.

"You were adamant about sleeping in the guest room, and I respected that. But somehow, in the middle of the night, you sauntered over re, flung the covers back, and laid down beside me," Kelvin said, pretending it was true.

Penelope was stunned.

Pointing to herself, she exclaimed, "Me? Cto the main bedroom in the middle of the night?" "That's right. No recollection?" he asked.

"Not at all!" she replied.

Penelope had no memory of such an event! "Oh, well, it looks like..." Kelvin mused, "Penelope, you must have been sleepwalking." "Sleepwalking?" Penelope asked.

"Yes," he said with a slight smile, "they say dreams reveal our truest desires it seems Penelope, it seems you only find peace when you're sleeping next to me." She was silent, inwardly scoffing at the idea. It wasn't possible she was sleepwalking! With an unaffected expression, Kelvin added, "I would have gladly carried you back to the master bedroom, but you locked the door so tight. How could I have possibly gotten in?" Penelope raked her fingers through her hair.

After a moment, she demanded, "Check the security footage. I want to see the tapes!" This mystery needed solving. Otherwise, if she was habitually sleepwalking into Kelvin's bed, how troubleswould that be? "Sure," Kelvin agreed readily, "I'll have the butler pull it up." Soon, the butler arrived.

"Mrs. Davis, the thing is..." the butler began with an apologetic expression, "the upstairs cameras malfunctioned last night and are currently being repaired." "Malfunctioned?" Penelope echoed in disbelief.

What a coincidence.

She struggled to accept this explanation. "Just last night, they broke?" she asked, skeptically.

"Yes, indeed," the butler confirmed with a nod. "Might have been a result of the power outage last night." Kelvin's expression conveyed a sense of 'it's fate, out of my hands.' The butler stole a glance at Kelvin, hoping his cover-up held water.

Penelope was speechless.

With frustration churning inside her, she went to freshen up, brushing her teeth while wondering when she had ever had episodes of sleepwalking.
