Chapter134 Dying at Your Hands Would Be Worth It Penelope's blade was concealed, hidden away within the confines of her pillow. She wondered, could Kelvin possibly know? She dared not dwell on the thought, holding her breath as if the very act of exhaling could shatter the world around her.
"Why are you so scared oftouching your pillow?" Kelvin's voice was light, teasing as he gently pried her fingers away.
"I'm not..." she stammered, unable to complete the thought.
"Scared I might find it?" he finished for her.
Before she could react, Kelvin's nimble fingers retrieved the hidden knife from within the pillowcase. Penelope was frozen with shock. He knew. He knew about the knife! But how? "I bet you're surprised, aren't you?" Kelvin's hand, veins protruding slightly, gripped the knife handle. "You hide it well, yet I found out..." "You... how..." Penelope stuttered, the words failing her. She felt it again, the terrifying depth and cunning of this man! "You ordered the bodyguards to buy lots of fruit, but the knife was missing. It wasn't hard to guess," Kelvin said nonchalantly.
Penelope bit her lip. "The room is only so big; where else would you hide it except the pillow?" Kelvin continued. "Now, Penelope, tell me, what were you planning to do with this knife?" He raised an eyebrow, an image of composure, without any anger. Having been found out, Penelope decided there was no longer any point in hiding the truth.
"I want to kill you!" She locked eyes with Kelvin, "Ever since you cinto my life, all you've broughtis endless pain! Now, you've even taken my child from me. You and I... we can't coexist under this sky!" "Do you hatethat much?" Kelvin asked.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Yes!" "Is it just because of the child? Is that why you hateso much?" Penelope retorted, "No, it's everything you've done to me. I wish you'd be dead!" With each word she spoke, Kelvin's smile grew wider. He nodded, "All right. Penelope, I'll give you that chance. Take my life, take my heart." With that, Kelvin offered her the knife. Penelope didn't take it. He pressed it into her hand, forcing her to grip the handle. "Be careful, it's sharp. Don't hurt yourself." Holding the knife firmly gave her a surreal feeling. "You... You know I want to kill you, and you're givingthe knife?" She had expected Kelvin to take the knife back, to throw it away, to keep it out of her reach forever.
"Yes," said Kelvin calmly, "Go ahead, Penelope." He was so calm, yet her hand trembled. "The second step to proving my love for you begins now," Kelvin uttered gravely. "I'm entrusting my entire life to you, letting you... do as you please." "You're not afraid of dying?" "If my death comes by your hand, it would be worth it." Penelope bit her lower lip harder. "Kelvin, don't think... I can't do it. Don't think I won't dare!" "You can, you definitely can. Begin, Penelope." Kelvin's confidence was unwavering, his composure rock solid. He even steadied Penelope's trembling hand and directed the tip of the knife towards his heart.
He was wearing only a sapphire blue shirt. The thin fabric would tear with just a poke. With a little bit more force from Penelope, the knife would pierce the shirt, the skin beneath it.
"Hold it steady," Kelvin reminded her again, "I hope you make it quick and precise, don't prolong it. The pain is more intense that way." Penelope's gaze was fixated not on Kelvin's eyes, but on the sharp tip of the knife she held.
Rather than attempting to dodge or evade, Kelvin stood still, his life seemingly entrusted entirely to her.
One could not help but wonder, what was going through his mind? Was he truly unafraid of death? Or had he calculated that she would not have the heart, that she would not dare to strike? "Don't be overly confident," Penelope warned, her teeth clenched tightly. "There's a sea of bad blood between us; two lives have already been lost. I've wished for your death!" "I know. So, do it," Kelvin responded.
With her teeth still clenched, Penelope slowly began to push the knife forward.
Blood started to seep through Kelvin's shirt, yet his expression remained unchanged, as if the blood staining his shirt was not his own.
"I hate you, I hate you so much!" Penelope found herself repeating, unsure if she was speaking to herself or to him. "I hate you enough to wish you'd disappear from my life... Kelvin, you've ruined me!" "I know, I was cruel to you before. That's why I'm giving it all back now," Kelvin replied.
"Your life as payment?" she asked, her teeth still gritted.
Kelvin nodded, "Yes. If you want my heart and my life, they're yours." Penelope bit down harder, scepticism clear in her eyes. "The Davis estate and the family name, the power and prestige-you're willing to give all that up?" "I don't want them," he answered firmly, "Now, I only want to prove my love for you." Kelvin was so prideful, so arrogantly self-assured. Penelope found him impossible to decipher.
How could he possibly be willing to die? This must be one of his tricks. He must have an ulterior motive...
"Penelope, why have you stopped?" Kelvin prodded, "It's only an inch-just a flesh wound, not lethal at all." Blood dripped down, staining the back of his hand.
Her hand steadied, gripping the knife with newfound confidence.

"What?" he demanded. Penelope smiled radiantly, lifting her gaze to lock eyes with him. In the next moment, she swiftly withdrew the knife.
Kelvin's pupils dilated.
What was she planning to do? Before he could fathom her intentions, Penelope pivoted her wrist, turning the blade towards herself! "Penelope!" he exclaimed.
Just moments before, when the blade's tip had threatened his own life, Kelvin had remained calm. But now, with his life no longer in danger, he was the one in a state of panic.
Penelope tilted her head back, the blade poised at her own throat.
"Drop it, Penelope!" Kelvin bellowed, "What the hell are you doing?" "If you truly love me, Kelvin, my death would bring you the greatest pain, wouldn't it?" she said with a light chuckle. "To love and yet not have me, to loseforever-that's the ultimate punishment for you!" He was utterly frantic, all his former composure gone.
"Put the knife down," Kelvin said intensely, his eyes fixated on her, "Don't hurt yourself!" As he reached out to snatch the knife away, she swiftly stepped back.
"Don't cany closer, don't try to take it," she warned, "or you'll only hasten my hand!" "You're insane!" he exclaimed.
"Yes, insane because of you. Kelvin, the moment you resolved to end the life of my baby, I becnothing more than a shell, a walking corpse devoid of soul or feeling!" Penelope thought to herself, her face a picture of distress.
