To completely sever ties with Aaron, partnering with William seemed like the most feasible option. Besides, although life in the Grayson household would be challenging, at least she would be free.
Just then, a smooth, charismatic voice cthrough her phone: "Miss Sullivan, have you changed your mind so soon?" Serena glanced down, realizing the call had somehow connected without her noticing. She took a deep breath, ignoring the teasing tone in William's voice, and cut straight to the point: "Mr. Grayson, I agree to the partnership, but I have one condition." "And what might that be?" William's voice resonated through the phone like a deep cello note.
"Since we're in a business arrangement, there's no need to fulfill marital duties, wouldn't you agree, Mr. Grayson?" William chuckled softly, amused by her straightforwardness: "Ah, Miss Sullivan is concerned about matters of the bedroom. Tell me, what do you think a cripple likecould possibly do?" Serena hadn't expected William to be so blunt, and a blush crept up her cheeks. "Mr. Grayson, when can I leave Alderburg?" "No rush. Let's meet tomorrow and discuss it further." "Alright." She knew she needed a solid plan to distance herself from Aaron for good.
After arranging the tand place to meet, Serena hung up the phone. Yet, she didn't feel the relief she had hoped for. Instead, a heavy weight settled over her. How did things with Aaron end up like this? At a bar.
Frederick spotted Aaron at the counter, deep in his cups, and considered slipping away. Lately, Aaron had been acting as if possessed, frequenting Frederick's bar to drown his sorrows. Typically, Aaron was a man of discipline- he appreciated a good drink but never overindulged. Yet, this marked the third tthis month alone.
Frederick paused, torn by concern, and finally turned back to join Aaron. As Aaron's only friend, he felt a sense of duty. If he didn't look out for Aaron, who would? "Another fight with Serena?" Frederick asked, ordering a drink and leaning against the bar.

Aaron glanced over at Frederick, his face set in a hard expression before downing his drink in one go. "More," he demanded, slamming the glass down. The bartender cast a pleading look at Frederick, holding up two fingers. "Two more?" Frederick whispered.
The bartender shook his head, whispering back, "Twenty."
Frederick's expression changed instantly. He turned to Aaron, am his usual playful demeanor gone. "Are you trying to drink yourself to death in my bar? Aaron, lettell you, I can't afford your tab if you do!"
Aaron remained silent, his face grim. Frederick pressed on, perplexed. "What happened with Serena? Didn't you plan to announce at tonight's celebration that she was the rightful Mrs. Vance of Vance Holdings? What, she's still not satisfied? Unless she expects you to move city hall to the venue, maybe she should consider uninstalling that romance first."
