Chapter 44 Cynthia Lynwood clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, but she didn't even notice.

"You're not in good health. You should stay out of these things," Aaron said sharply, glaring at Matthew. "And you, as her doctor, should know better than to let just anyone see her." Matthew's expression shifted, and he bowed his head. "Yes, Mr. Vance." "Go home." Aaron dismissed him with a cold command.

Matthew glanced at Cynthia Lynwood, whose face was full of defiance, then crouched to help her up. "Cynthia, let's go." "Wait a minute!" Cynthia's voice cracked as she called out to Aaron, who was already halfway up the stairs. "Aaron, I... I've been back for so long, but I haven't had the chance to visit Serena. I must have caused her a lot of inconvenience since I arrived. I'd like to thank her in person, is that alright?" Aaron rubbed his forehead. Just thinking about Serena's lifeless expression made his head throb. Yet, he knew Serena might not believe his words. But maybe, coming from an outsider like Cynthia, she might listen. He nodded, granting permission.

Cynthia's eyes lit up, though she quickly lowered her head to hide the malice in them.

They headed upstairs, and Cynthia knocked on Serena's bedroom door. But there was no answer.

Matthew frowned in irritation. "Cynthia, let's go. In the end, it's Serena who's being petty. Just because someone called her a homewrecker, does she really need to push the Mitchell family to bankruptcy? I've never seen a more unreasonable woman..." "Matthew, ultimately this is my fault. If I hadn't cback, none of this would have happened." Cynthia knocked again, and the door creaked open.

"Serena must be in the shower and didn't hear. Matthew, I'll go in alone. Wait forhere." Matthew hesitated but relented. After all, Serena was a woman, albeit a very infuriating one.

"Be careful," he warned.

Cynthia nodded slightly and pushed the door open. However, as she stepped inside, her face turned ghostly pale.

The room was enormous, filled with luxury brands as far as the eye could see. From the handcrafted Italian sofa to the bohemian carpets, every detail screamed opulence. And the wall of clothing-it was enough to drive her mad with envy. Each piece was designer, custom-tailored, and stunningly beautiful.

If only she weren't sick...

A creak of the door resounded behind her, startling Cynthia. She quickly masked her intense jealousy and turned around.

Standing at the bathroom door, looking fresh and natural, was Serena. The envy surged once more in Cynthia. Serena's cheeks cheeks had a healthy glow, not sickly pale but radiant with a hint of blush. Her figure was perfectly proportioned firm where it should be, slender where it shouldn't.

Cynthia gripped the doorfrtightly, suppressing her emotions. Finally, she managed a derisive snort. she "Serena, you must be curious why I'm here, right?"

"It's Aaron who sent me. He said the place I'm living now, which was supposed to be your marital home, is too small. Once I marry him, it'd be better for us to live here, so he thought I should cand take a look around."
