Chapter 33 Olivia froze for a moment, clearly not expecting Serena to challenge her so openly. But soon, a look of disdain flickered across her eyes.
She really thought that just because Aaron personally picked her up, she was the lady of the house now.
"The kitchen isn't prepared for a sudden visit," Olivia remarked bluntly.
"Then make it again!" Serena replied, pouring the soup down the sink.

Was Mr. Vance really siding with Serena? It seemed impossible, but as an employee, Olivia knew better than to protest further. She simply nodded and retreated to the kitchen.
Once Olivia was gone, Aaron approached Serena. "I'll have Victor pick you up at seven tonight." Serena remained silent.
Aaron frowned, his lips moved as if to add something, but he ultimately turned and left without another word. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, Serena headed out, ignoring Olivia's snide remarks trailing behind her.
At the café, she found Samuel already waiting. Serena apologized quickly, "I'm sorry about last night. Everything happened so suddenly, I didn't get a chance to explain." This morning, Samuel had texted her, reminding her she had forgotten to tell him she was back at Rosewood Gardens.
"It's alright," Samuel said, pulling out a chair for her. His Adam's apple bobbed slightly, "You still love him, don't you?" Serena paused, her hand hovering over the menu. "Why do you say that?" Samuel smiled, a trace of melancholy in his eyes. "Seven years is a long tto love someone. How many seven years do we have in our lives?" Serena smiled back, offering no explanation.
When love fades, so does the need to care about others' opinions.
"Have you found out anything about the company's alleged money laundering?" "I asked around. Someone reported it, and the higher-ups are taking it seriously. That's why they called you back." "When can I leave?" She had no desire to stay in Alderburg, the city that reminded her of Aaron.
"Well... these investigations usually take months, so you might have to stay in Alderburg for a while." Serena massaged her temples. "I can fully cooperate with the investigation, but I don't want to stay in Alderburg. Is that possible?" Samuel was taken aback by her question and hesitated. "I'll check with the lawyer." "Okay."
As he dialed the lawyer, his gaze lingered on Serena. She appeared calm and serene, a stark contrast to the weariness and frustration she used to display when caught up with Aaron. This left him questioning her true motives for returning to Rosewood Gardens. Was it really because of Aaron? Perhaps her once-broken heart had reignited.

After the call, Samuel had regained his composure. "The lawyer says it's unlikely you can leave Alderburg right now. The case has caught the authorities' attention unless we find the informant and prove malicious intent." Serena sighed. Finding the whistleblower wouldn't be easy given the well-structured reporting system.
But she had to try.
"Thanks, Samuel."
After parting ways with Samuel, Serena sought out a private om investigator. Yet, when they heard she wanted to track down an informant, most turned her down. By evening, Serena was hoarse from talking, still without a willing investigator. Finally, she settled into a restaurant for dinner.
As she checked her phone to place an order, she noticed numerous missed calls —all from Victor.
