Chapter 694

Violet was baffled by the man's questioning, his face filled with suspicion and caution, making her feel utterly

lost and vulnerable. She swallowed hard, feeling the intimidating aura of the man, making her take a step back

subconsciously:

"I saw the job listing on a hiringand sent in my resume. Marguerite interviewedand decided to keep me

on."

Frederick frowned at Marguerite. "You hired her?"

Marguerite, puzzled, replied, "Is there a problem?"

The man remained silent, his probing gaze lingering on Marguerite for a moment,

as if in deep thought. Then, he shifted his attention back to Violet.

"Where did you get that scarf around your neck?"

His blunt question startled Violet, making her shiver. Marguerite didn't see any reason for Violet's fear but still

pulled her behind, explaining:

"Her parents were silk fabric suppliers. She's been around these materials since she was a kid. Wearing a scarf

isn't a crime."

The man's deep look was intriguing, yet he didn't ask any further, walking past them towards the office area,

commanding without expression:

"Leave and close the door behind you."

Violet, momentarily stunned, realized he was talking to her. She glanced at Marguerite, then timidly made her

way to the door. Just as she was about to leave, Frederick's clear voice stopped her.

"Wait."

Marguerite was confused. "What now?"

Violet turned around, "Mr. Winston, yes?"

"Take off the scarf. Don't wear it again."

Violet's face was a mix of confusion and reluctance, but she dared not defy him. Reluctantly, she removed the

scarf and walked away, dejected. Through the glass window, Marguerite could see Violet's troubled expression

and felt frustrated on her behalf. She moved to sit next to Frederick, muttering in complaint:

"What's wrong with wearing a scarf? Who did it bother?"

"Do | really need to explain?" His gaze softened considerably, adding a hint of understanding.

"Did you keep her because she reminds you of Penelope?"

Marguerite chuckled. "You noticed the resemblance to Penelope too?"

Frederick corrected, "Not just the resemblance. It's the way she dresses, the scarf made her look even more

similar."

"It's not her fault."

"Ever since Penelope left, Yuna's been unstable. Seeing Violet just triggers her. Annoying."

Marguerite's eyes widened. "So what now? You're not going to make Violet change her whole wardrobe for Yuna,

are you?"

Frederick sighed, a hint of exasperation showing. This woman's ability to exaggerate was getting stronger by the

day. He tapped Marguerite's nose lightly. "Don't get smart with me. Protecting someone doesn't work like that.

Did you not see Violet almost getting strangled by Yuna?"

Marguerite instinctively recoiled, feeling the ambiguity in Frederick's gesture. This man, had he forgotten how he

rejected her just last night? The thought made Marguerite feel gloomy, but Frederick quickly withdrew his hand

and started typing on his computer with focused attention.

"This is a critical time, don't provoke her."

"If she doesn't bother me, I'd be grateful. Better find her a hospital to check in."

As soon as she finished speaking, Frederick's phone rang inconveniently. He was about to answer, but his hand

slipped, accidentally hitting the speakerphone button. A super sweet voice unexpectedly filled the room:

"Freddie, you were the one who askedout. How cyou're not here yet?"
